His father Sayyid 'Alawi was one of the most eminent and popular scholars of Mecca, as had been his grandfather, Sayyid 'Abbas. SiapaSayyid Alawi Al-Maliki? Sayyid Alawi bin Abbas Al-Maliki Al-Hasani adalah salah seorang ulama besar Makkah pada abad lalu. Dia telah mengajar berbagai ilmu Islam di Masjidil Haram selama hampir 40 tahun. Ratusan murid dari seluruh dunia berguru kepadanya di Masjidil Haram. Beliau dilahirkan di Makkah pada tahun 1328 Hijriyah.
Beliauadalah Sayyid Muhammad bin Alawi bin Abbas al-Maliki al-Hasani. Beliau lahir di Mekkah pada tahun 1365 H. putra dari ulama besar yang mengajar di Masjidil Haram, Sayyid Alawi Abbas al-Maliki. Tidak di sangsikan lagi, beliau masih keturunan Rasulallah dan nasab beliau masih terkait dengan Sayyidina Hasan, cucu Rasulallah.
SetelahAs-Sayyid Alwi Al-Maliki wafat, putra beliau As-Sayyid Muhammad tampil sebagai penerus. Disamping mengajar di Masjidi Haram, beliau diangkat sebagai dosen di Universitas King Abdul Aziz Jeddah dan Universitas Ummul Qura Makkah bagian ilmu Hadith dan Usuluddin.
